Aruba Land and Water Activities for Families

By Stephanie Shemin Feingold

Aruba is full of so many activities that you can enjoy with your entire family. While it is not the snorkel capital of the world, there are definitely a few good spots. There are also a few activity options on land that my kids always look forward to.

Water Activities

Snorkeling: I always recommend unknown spots that locals recommend instead of a snorkeling tour or going to Baby Beach, which many people will suggest. Ask the concierge or someone local about a snorkeling spot on the way to the lighthouse. You will see beautiful water, docked boats and people parked on the side. Walk down some steps to the water and you’ll get an authentic Aruba experience!

Beaches: Baby Beach is beautiful and will be recommended by most people. However, in my opinion, it’s not worth schlepping there if your hotel already has a nice beach. Save your time for the many other activities available on the Island.

Submarine: If you have younger kids or need a leisurely water activity, the semi-submarine tour is a great option. You’ll get a chance to see the beautiful underwater views without getting wet!

Fishing Boat: You can take a fishing boat out on the water and then have a restaurant cook the catch for you. We have not personally does this yet because we’ve heard the water can be really rough and there is too much waiting for young children. If you just go to the docks you can see fishermen unloading fish and cutting them up which is a great way to still get the experience.

Land Activities

De Palm Island: This activity requires a whole day and gives you land and water activities for the whole family. You’ll find snorkeling, a zipline, banana boat rides, a water park, and more! Book this trip early if it fits in your schedule.

Butterfly Farm: Located in the Palm Beach area, this is a must visit for all ages. You will learn so much about butterflies and get some fantastic photo opportunities. The best part? Your ticket is good for your entire vacation so go early and then visit again!

Adventures: My kids are young, but friends with older kids have really enjoyed jetpacking, horseback riding and an off-road Jeep tour to see the North side of the Island and local areas most tourists don’t get to visit.

Aruba has a little something for people of all ages and adventure levels. Pick and choose what fits your style the best — whether you’re going for relaxation or packing your schedule with fun in the sun!
