Love the beach and swimming but want to take it a step further for your next adventure? Snorkeling is a great family activity that can be experienced in various locations and still feel different every time you go. Our contributors shared their favorite spots to go snorkeling — pick one for your next vacation!
Philippines
The Shangri-La in Cebu has a protected marine sanctuary on its shores, allowing for easy snorkeling right off the beach. You will also find kayaking and other water activities to entertain those in your group not as interested in snorkeling. Bohol is another great option for snorkeling in the Philippines.

Bonaire
Almost all of Bonaire’s water is legally protected as part of a National Marine Park. The water in many spots is crystal clear so you will have great visibility when exploring. Most snorkeling spots in this Caribbean island can be accessed right off the shore, so you don’t have to spend extra money on renting a boat.

Belize
Home to the second largest barrier reef in the world, Belize is a prime spot for snorkeling. Visit the popular Ambergris Caye area for easy access to snorkeling and comfortable accommodations. For more of an adventure, take a boat ride to the Outer Atolls where you will find the famous Blue Hole.

Galapagos
If you’re an experienced snorkeler and are looking for something aside from coral and reefs, add the Galapagos Islands to your list. Tortugas, sharks, manta rays, a variety of fish, and more will be your companions in the water.

Bora Bora and Moorea
If you’re looking for crystal clear lagoon water with active sea-life, a trip to Bora Bora or Moorea may be perfect for you. Book an overwater bungalow and walk straight into the water off your private deck. Especially great for honeymooners and those looking for a relaxing trip with minimal research involved.

Hawaii
Don’t want to leave the US for your snorkeling adventure? Hawaii is a great option and you can snorkel with turtles right off the shore. Makena Beach is an easy spot that can be enjoyed by the whole family, but there are plenty of other sites to take advantage of.

Fiji
Fiji is known as the Soft Coral Capital of the World with over 400 species of coral to explore. The Blue Lagoon Beach Resort in the Yasawa Islands is highly recommended. You will feel like you’re swimming in an aquarium when you snorkel here.

Maldives
If you’re serious about snorkeling in the Maldives, it’s recommended that you stay at a snorkeling resort with access to great house reefs. You will experience an abundance of sea life with a large variety of fish. The Maldives has snorkeling options for everyone, from kids to those with more experience.

Thailand
Thailand is a world-class snorkeling destination with pristine beaches and lush reefs. Depending on your luck, you might come face to face with a whale-shark or a manta ray. There are many resort options but you can also consider a liveaboard trip where you can snorkel all day while staying on a yacht.
