Can you and your kids not get enough of the Harry Potter books and movies? If so, the Warner Brothers Harry Potter Studio Tour in London has to be added to your must-visit list! This magical walking tour takes you behind the scenes of the world of Harry Potter. It provides you with up-close looks at the costumes, props, and special effects used in the movies. Our contributors shared their tips on how to get the most out of your experience.
General Information:
If you’re comparing the tour at Universal Studios in Orlando to the studio tour in London, keep in mind that London’s version is more informative and not as interactive as the experience in Orlando (i.e., no rides). You will get a better understanding of how the green screens are used to create the special effects seen in the movies. Kids will have the opportunity to fly the brooms and use the green screens to make it appear as if they are flying over Hogwarts. Remember, the tour is self-guided, and you can go at your own pace, so take your time!
Pro Tip: If it’s your child’s birthday on the day of the tour, he or she will be able to open the door to the Grand Hall!
Reservations:
Book early! This is the most frequent advice given by our contributors. Reserve your tickets at least a couple months in advance to avoid the tour being sold out. Also, look for an early time slot so you will have maximum time to explore during the tour. Having only a couple of hours for the tour will leave you feeling rushed.
Pro Tip: If tickets are sold out through the direct website, look into a tour company (like Golden Tours) that might have tickets available.
Tour Extras:
The audio tour is highly recommended by many of our contributors. There is an additional cost for this, but it will amplify the experience you have. Also, don’t miss the butterbeer and butterbeer ice cream! The gift shop is also incredible, so be prepared to pick up a few items.
Need More Harry Potter?
Completed the tour and still craving some more Harry Potter action? Go on to King’s Cross station and find Platform 9 ¾! You will find a luggage trolley embedded into the wall that makes for the perfect photo op. You can also take advantage of Harry Potter themed guided walking tours, where you will be able to visit many locations in London where filming took place.
